Print a Selected Area of a PDF: Match Acrobat’s Snapshot Controls

By ON Lab · Sources checked November 6, 2026

Match the instructions to the Snapshot experience you see. Adobe’s newer Acrobat Snapshot workflow puts Print in the preview notification’s Options menu. Its separate portion-of-a-page guide describes a selected region and a Selected graphic choice in the Print dialog.

When Snapshot copies the area to the clipboard

Adobe’s current troubleshooting page explains that the newer experience copies the region without leaving it selected for direct printing. For that experience, its route is:

  1. Open the PDF in Acrobat and choose Take a Snapshot from the Quick action toolbar.
  2. Capture the portion you need.
  3. In the preview notification at the bottom, open Options and select Print.

The same Adobe page recommends Help → Check for updates to obtain the newer print option. On a managed computer, ask its administrator about updates rather than changing a controlled installation.

When your interface retains a selected graphic

Adobe’s other guide describes selecting Take a snapshot, dragging a rectangle around the region, opening Print this file, then choosing Selected graphic under Pages to Print → More Options. It also documents Fit for enlarging the selection to the sheet.

These routes describe different interface experiences. If an option is absent, record which experience you have instead of combining steps from both into a procedure your screen cannot follow.

Check that you selected the right information

Inspect the region before printing. A cropped chart can lose its units, legend, date or qualification even when its main image is visible. Decide which of those details must remain with the excerpt.

For an editorial example, imagine printing one diagram from a manual. Include its caption and the note defining the measurement units, then compare the preview with that intended selection. This is a suggested acceptance check, not a document or printer test we performed.

Check the scale separately if physical dimensions matter. Enlarging a selection to fill a sheet does not preserve its original size. For that decision, see Fit and Actual Size. To spread a complete large page over several sheets instead, use Poster tiling.

Scope: Adobe’s two documented Snapshot printing experiences and an editorial selection check. No particular Acrobat installation or physical output was tested.
