Print a Large PDF Across Multiple Sheets With Acrobat’s Poster Option

By ON Lab · Sources checked November 6, 2026

In Acrobat’s Print dialog, choose Poster under Page Sizing & Handling to split one large PDF page across several sheets. Check the tile layout before sending the job: shrinking a page to fit one sheet is a different result.

Set up the tiled layout

Open the PDF and select Print this file. Adobe documents these Poster controls:

The preview updates as these settings change. Inspect the layout there before selecting Print.

Decide what the assembled page must do

A wall notice needs readable text; a sewing pattern or measured template also needs accurate dimensions. Write down your intended finished size and any reference measurement before changing Tile Scale. Choosing a visually pleasing grid does not verify physical size.

For an editorial example, imagine a pattern with a marked 100 mm reference line. After assembling a sample, compare that line with a ruler before cutting material. The example describes an acceptance check; it is not a result we measured or a guarantee of printer accuracy.

Check the preview and the paper plan

  1. Confirm the selected printer, paper size and source page.
  2. Review how many sheets the preview will use and whether the shared areas will help you align the artwork.
  3. Decide whether labels or trim marks belong on the working copy. A filename may be unsuitable on a copy shared outside your team.
  4. Check the assembled output for matching edges, readable detail and any task-critical measurement before printing more copies.

Keep the original PDF unchanged and record the settings used. If the preview still shows an unexpected layout, stop and record the Acrobat version, selected printer and options. This guide does not establish a fix for disabled Poster controls or for reprinting a single missing tile.

If you only want the whole page reduced onto one sheet, use Fit and Actual Size. To put several different PDF pages on one sheet, use Multiple pages per sheet.

Scope: Adobe’s documented desktop Poster controls and an editorial acceptance workflow. No physical poster or printer was tested.
