Print Multiple PDF Pages on One Sheet: Choose the Page Order

By ON Lab · Sources checked November 6, 2026

In Acrobat’s Print dialog, select Multiple under Page Sizing & Handling. Choose Pages per sheet and Page order, then check whether the smaller pages are still readable. This puts different PDF pages together on a sheet; it does not turn one page into several copies.

Choose the number and reading order

Open Print this file. Under Multiple, choose the desired Pages per sheet value. Adobe also documents Custom for a different count, up to 99. That maximum is an available control, not a recommendation for a readable handout.

Use Page order to choose the direction in which the source pages are placed. Horizontal runs across rows; Vertical runs down columns. Reversed variants change the horizontal direction. Check the preview with your own page numbers rather than guessing which label matches your desired layout.

Make the layout serve the reader

For example, take a four-page meeting note with clear page numbers. If the reader should move left to right and then down, compare the preview against that sequence before printing. This is an editorial checking method, not a sample output we produced.

Look at the smallest text and any diagrams the reader needs. A layout that saves sheets may still be unusable if a chart legend becomes too small. Choose the number of pages per sheet according to the document, paper size and reading task rather than applying one setting to everything.

Check one copy before the full job

  1. Confirm that the selected PDF actually has the distinct pages you want together.
  2. Record the selected printer, paper size, pages per sheet and order.
  3. Inspect the preview for sequence and orientation, then produce a small sample if needed.
  4. Read the sample at its intended distance and verify its page numbers before sending the complete document.

Before your next unrelated print job, re-open its dialog and inspect the layout. Do not assume the previous choice has reset or that a similarly named printer-driver control has the same value.

Choose another mode when the output is different

A folded book needs pages arranged for folding, which is the Booklet workflow. One large page spread across several sheets needs Poster tiling. If you need an unchanged physical size on a single sheet, review Actual Size instead.

Scope: Acrobat’s documented Multiple controls plus editorial readability and sequence checks. No physical handout was printed; custom-driver behavior is not verified.
