Print PDF Comments in Acrobat: Markups or a Summary?
By ON Lab · Sources checked November 6, 2026
In Acrobat’s Print dialog, Document and Markups includes comments with the document. For a separate overview of comments, use Summarize Comments. Decide whether the reader needs the marked page, the comment text, or both before printing.
Select the content to include
Open Print from Menu on Windows or File on macOS. Adobe lists these options in Comments & Forms:
- Document: document content and form fields, without comments.
- Document and Markups: document content, form fields and comments.
- Document and Stamps: content, fields and stamps, excluding other markups.
- Form fields only: interactive field contents without the underlying document.
To add a comment summary, select Summarize Comments and confirm with Yes before printing.
Check the actual review requirement
A highlighted sentence and the explanation attached to it serve different purposes. Before producing a review pack, pick a page with a known comment and write down what the recipient must see. Do they need to locate the passage, read the reviewer’s explanation, or identify an approval stamp?
Do not treat the presence of a small annotation symbol as proof that the full discussion is readable on paper. Inspect the selected output and summary for the specific comment you chose. This is an editorial acceptance check, not a claim that every annotation type looks the same.
Use one representative sample
- Choose a non-sensitive page containing the kind of annotation you need.
- Record the selected Comments & Forms option.
- Check the preview and, if needed, a small printed sample.
- Confirm that the intended comment can be matched to its passage before preparing the full copy.
For example, a reviewer asking “include my explanation beside the revised paragraph” has a different requirement from someone asking for a clean document. Agree on the expected output rather than guessing from the word “comments.” This example is illustrative.
If the whole sheet is blank, follow the blank-output checklist instead. If page edges are missing, check page sizing.
