Find saved site permissions in Firefox: a list, a reset and a block differ
By ON Lab · Sources checked November 8, 2026
For saved camera or microphone sites in desktop Firefox, open Settings, find the Permissions section, then open the relevant permission category. Mozilla's current help shows a saved-site list with Allow or Block controls and a Remove Website action. The address-bar permission panel is different: it shows relevant statuses for the site currently open, rather than a list of every site's permissions.
A Firefox reader asked on November 7, 2026 where to find sites with saved permissions so some could be removed. Their exact permission type was not specified. This guide uses camera and microphone as documented device-permission examples, and explains the current-site alternative. It does not claim that one screen lists every permission type or that we inspected that reader's browser.
Choose the list that matches the permission
Mozilla's camera and microphone guide, updated October 8, 2026 when checked, gives these desktop steps:
- Open Firefox Settings. On the documented Mac menu, use Firefox → Settings; some installations label it Preferences.
- Select Permissions and data, then find the Permissions section.
- Open Camera or Microphone, depending on what you want to review.
- Read the saved website addresses and their Allow or Block values.
These are category lists, not a browsing-history list. Reviewing the microphone category does not establish what is saved for the camera, and a site absent from one category may still have settings elsewhere. The source labels reflect current Mozilla documentation; if your version uses different navigation, find the matching permission setting or consult its version-specific help rather than changing an unrelated control.
This is an official-source desktop guide. We did not open or change native Firefox settings, create a device grant, or test a camera or microphone. The documentation was read in a separate browser, so there are no screenshots presented as proof of native Firefox execution.
Choose between removing an exception and blocking access
| Intended result | Documented control | Check afterward |
|---|---|---|
| Change a saved decision | Choose Allow or Block for the site | Reopen the category and read the saved value |
| Remove the saved site entry | Select the site and Remove Website | Reopen the category and confirm that entry is absent |
| Prevent new camera or microphone requests broadly | The category's block-new-requests checkbox | Confirm that broad policy was actually intended |
Use Save Changes after reviewing the addresses and intended choices. Then reopen the same category to verify the saved result. Read the full site address before changing it; similar names are not interchangeable, and each permission category should be reviewed separately.
Removing a saved decision is not the same promise as setting a persistent Block. In Mozilla's current-site panel, clearing a status restores the permission's default behavior. For camera and microphone, its guide says a cleared status lets Firefox ask again on a later visit. Choose an explicit block if your intention is to keep denying that access, subject to the applicable browser policy.
For one open site, use its permission panel
Mozilla documents an address-bar permission icon when a site has special permissions. Open it to inspect the relevant allowed or blocked status for that site. The X next to a status clears that status; it is not an instruction to delete every permission held by every site.
The icon can be absent when no default permission settings have been changed for the current site. That absence is not evidence that Firefox lost all saved settings or that your device is necessarily available to the site. Look in the relevant category list or the site's Page Info permissions rather than guessing from the missing icon.
Page Info provides another current-site view
Mozilla's Site Permissions panel article directs desktop users to Page Info for additional permission controls. In the documented site-information route, open the address-bar shield, select the Connection entry and then More site information. The Mac menu route is Tools → Page Info, with Command-I also documented.
In Page Info, inspect Permissions. Mozilla's camera and microphone guidance explains that a custom choice can be set by clearing Use Default and selecting the intended Allow or Block value. Review which site the window describes before making a change.
Page Info is still a view for that website. It does not become a global index just because it includes several permission categories. Use the saved category lists when your starting question is “which sites have a camera or microphone decision?”
Avoid the obsolete all-in-one Permissions Manager recipe
A search can also return Mozilla's older Permissions Manager article describing about:permissions. That page explicitly says it is no longer maintained and may be outdated. We excluded it as a current navigation source rather than treating an official domain as proof that every historical feature still applies.
The broad “forget site” operation described there also has a much larger scope than removing one device permission. If your goal is to change a camera decision, do not turn that into a deletion of saved history, logins or unrelated site data. Choose the narrow permission control and verify it.
Keep browser grants and device availability separate
A saved Allow means a browser permission choice, not a guarantee that the operating system, hardware and website can successfully use the device. Conversely, an operating-system privacy setting is not a saved-site list inside Firefox. This guide locates and changes the documented browser decisions; it does not diagnose a silent microphone or a broken camera.
Mobile Firefox uses different device-settings routes, covered separately in Mozilla's help. Do not apply the desktop menu sequence to Android or iOS. If the missing permission is another category, identify that category and use its current help rather than assuming the camera list is exhaustive.
- Identify the permission type and the full website address.
- Open the corresponding saved-site list or current-site view.
- Choose reset, removal or explicit block according to the intended outcome.
- Save and reopen the same setting to verify it.
- Keep unrelated site data and other permission categories unchanged unless separately intended.
Checked November 8, 2026 against current Mozilla help and the dated reader question. Native Firefox permission changes and the reader's original profile were not tested. Current search volume, traffic and advertising returns remain unverified.
