Chrome Page Zoom or Font Size? Choose What You Want to Enlarge
By ON Lab · Sources checked November 6, 2026
For a larger webpage in desktop Chrome, open the three-dot menu and use Zoom. For a general starting size, open Settings → Appearance → Page zoom. The neighboring Font size setting targets text instead. Choose the control that matches what you want to read, then compare the actual page.
Start with one page
Google documents the menu’s plus and minus controls for making webpage content larger or smaller. Its keyboard reference also lists Ctrl + 0 on Windows or Linux and Command + 0 on Mac to return the page to its default size.
Our suggested comparison is simple: note the percentage shown in the menu, enlarge the page one step, and read a paragraph plus one control you need to use. If the text is easier to read but a button now falls outside the visible area, record both results. A bigger number is not, by itself, a successful reading setup.
Choose a default for future browsing
In Settings → Appearance, choose a Page zoom value to change the size of webpage content, or choose Font size to adjust text. Google notes that some websites do not allow the browser to change text size alone.
As an editorial example, compare a news article and a web form you already use. If your main need is reading paragraph text, inspect the article first. If the form’s labels and controls also need enlarging, compare the whole-page zoom result. Keep a note of the original choices so you can return to them if the new setup is less useful.
Review an existing website exception
Google documents saved site zoom settings under Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Additional content settings → Zoom levels. Use the X beside a site to remove that site’s resize setting.
Before removing an entry, read its address and check that it is the site you intend to change. Reopen that website afterward and compare the result. This is a way to inspect a saved exception, not a promise that every website or extension will preserve a chosen size indefinitely.
Keep webpage content separate from other size problems
This guide covers webpage reading size. A tiny browser window, unreadable address bar, distorted letters or a document editor’s own zoom control is a different observation. If the page stays difficult to read, note which area is affected and which control changed it. Avoid treating one percentage as a diagnosis of the cause.
